A lifelong outdoorsman, painter Jim Bortz relates experiences in the field through his art. With a bold impressionistic style built on a solid foundation of drawing skills, Bortz’s work strikes a balance of honest believability with an adventurous palette. Jim makes his home in Cody, Wyoming near the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Here, he has access to all the subjects he loves to paint. Exploring the wild places of the Rocky Mountain West provides endless inspiration
His work has appeared regularly in the Buffalo Bill Art Show and has been included in the prestigious Birds In Art exhibit. The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum has several pieces in its permanent collection. Bortz’s work has also been featured in Western Art and Architecture, Sporting Classics, and Fine Art Connoisseur magazines.
