Krystii Melaine is passionate about life and about art. “I’m fascinated by the appearance and behaviour of all living things, and by the process of expressing what I see in oil paint on canvas. Light, colour, and form inspire my work, and the subtle gestures of people and wildlife provide an endless source of new ideas to explore. To capture the essence of a wild creature or the personality of a friend and to share the wonders of life with others – this is what I live for!”

Born in the Australian town of Bairnsdale, Victoria, Krystii Melaine spent much of her childhood observing the wild birds and animals in the forests surrounding her home. Announcing at the age of four that she was going to be an artist, Krystii won her first art competition at seven. By the age of fourteen, she was selling paintings and accepting commissions. Following studies in painting, drawing, photography and graphic design, Krystii set up her own fashion design company, and in the following years she developed it into one of the largest bridal-wear companies in Australia. A large staff manufactured her seasonal collections which were sold to outlets around Australia and New Zealand, while exclusive designs were sold through her own retail store in Adelaide. Krystii’s elegant, sculptural gowns were also shown in Paris and London.

A burning desire to return to painting led Krystii to five years of study in traditional tonal realism and the oil-painting techniques of the old masters with the renowned Australian artist, Graham Moore. Drawing on Moore’s 80 years of artistic experience provided her with a strong background in portraiture, still life and landscape painting. Her passion for wildlife and fascination for people became the major inspirations for her paintings and Krystii is now recognised as one of Australia’s and the USA’s premier fine artists. Her work is regularly exhibited in major art museums and world class exhibitions across North America.

Krystii has recently moved with her husband, Michael, from Australia to Spokane, Washington, to be closer to her favorite American Western and wildlife subjects. She spends a great deal of time observing wildlife for her paintings, or working with cowboy and Native American friends to tell the stories of the history of the West. Through sketches and studies, her initial inspiration develops into a composition that expresses the visual and emotional impact of her experience with each creature or friend. Over a loose wash of color, Krystii develops her paintings “alla prima”, in one layer of oil paint applied wet-on-wet to the canvas panel. During the painting process, she is always totally absorbed by her subject and revelling in the paint itself. “I love the feel of oil paint, whether mixing intense colours or subtle tones, pushing around thick impasto or applying the thinnest of washes, laying down loose brushstrokes or fine details.” Working in a realistic style, Krystii combines accurate details with a loose application of paint. Her bold compositions project the amazing power of life with strength and conviction.

Krystii also paints traditional portraits and still lifes using the methods of the old masters, where larger brushes and a direct approach portray the essence of the subject directly from life. Her skill in capturing an accurate likeness in a strong, painterly style has led to many official portraits for the Australian Army, Navy and Air Force, and commissions for museum collections, corporate and private clients around the world.

An impressive list of prestigious awards includes Best of Show 2D at Cowgirl Up! at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Arizona, Best of Show 2D at Heart of the West at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Texas, The Painting Award at the Buffalo Bill Art Show in Cody, Best of Show at NatureWorks in Oklahoma three times, The Award of Merit – Bird in Arts For The Parks, Wyoming, and many from the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia including Best Australian Native Wildlife Artist. She has also been voted most popular artist in numerous exhibitions. Exhibitions in the USA have included Masters of the American West at the Autry National Center, Cowgirl Up! at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, Heart of the West at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Quest for the West at the Eiteljorg Museum, Night of Artists at the Briscoe Museum, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s Birds in Art, The Society of Animal Artists’ Art and the Animal, The Buffalo Bill Art Show, Arts For The Parks and major solo exhibitions.

The book Feather and Brush: Three Centuries of Australian Bird Art includes Krystii Melaine among the 34 major contemporary Australian bird artists featured. Articles about her work have appearing in international magazines including Southwest Art, Art of the West, Western Art Collector, Wildlife Art, U.S. Art and InformArt. The 2010 book “Best of Worldwide Oil Artists, Vol. I” features Krystii’s snow leopard “Himalayan Princess” on the cover and a 2 page spread inside.

Krystii Melaine’s brilliant and powerful oil paintings express the wonderful beauty and diversity of our natural world and of ourselves. Through her paintings, she hopes to inspire us to really appreciate all living things and to experience the world with the passion of an artist.

Broadmoor Galleries in Colorado Springs is proud to present “Moore Art: A Family Affair,” an exhibition that showcases the unique artistic styles of American impressionist artist Robert Moore, and his two children, Anna, and Robbie Moore. Robert, who is colorblind and paints with both hands simultaneously, has established himself as a prominent figure in the art world, and his children have followed in his footsteps.

Robert Moore, a celebrated American painter who is colorblind and paints with both hands simultaneously, is known for his signature landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits. The exhibition will showcase a range of Moore’s works alongside those of his talented children.

“Moore Art: A Family Affair” is a unique opportunity to experience the work of three incredibly talented artists from the same family,” said Broadmoor Galleries director, Jamie Oberloh. “Robert Moore’s impressionistic style is a true representation of the beauty and diversity of America, and his children Anna and Robbie are following in his footsteps with their own unique styles and techniques.”

Robert Moore’s artistic achievements are all the more remarkable given that he is colorblind. Despite this, he has become known for his ability to create vivid and striking color palettes in his paintings. He has also developed a unique technique of painting with both hands simultaneously, which allows him to create intricate details and textures in his works.

Moore’s use of both hands to paint has been compared to the way a pianist uses both hands to play a complex piece of music. This technique requires a great deal of focus and coordination, and it has become one of Moore’s signature methods.

Moore’s colorblindness has also influenced his work in other ways. He has said that he is drawn to painting landscapes because he is able to see the world in shades of green, which he can differentiate more easily than other colors. This has led him to develop a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and the environment.

Despite his colorblindness and unique painting technique, Robert Moore has become one of America’s most beloved impressionist painters. His works continue to inspire and captivate viewers, and his contributions to American art are truly remarkable.

Anna Moore, a professional artist in her own right, draws inspiration from her father’s work and her surroundings, using her skillful brushstrokes to capture the essence of nature in her landscapes. She works in a variety of media, including oil painting, watercolor, and printmaking. Her work is inspired by the natural beauty of the American West and the people and places that inhabit it.

Robbie Moore, who recently graduated with a Finance degree from the University of Arkansas, has always had a passion for art and the natural world. He has developed his skills in drawing, gouache, watercolor, and oil painting, and his work has been featured in a company calendar commissioned by his employer. With his father’s legacy of developing artists and a lineage of artists in his family, Robbie’s future aspiration is to make the most out of his upbringing and create a name for himself in the art world.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the work of three incredibly talented artists,” said Broadmoor Galleries’ director, Jamie Oberloh. “The combination of Robert’s impressionistic paintings with Anna and Robbie’s unique styles and mediums creates a truly exceptional exhibition that will delight and inspire our visitors. Their paintings are a true representation of the beauty and diversity of America, and we are honored to share the work with our community.”

The exhibition will be open to the public from May 18th, 2023, through June 8th, 2023, and will feature a special reception on May 18th, 2023, from 4-8 pm, where visitors can meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. All works in the exhibition will be available for sale.
