Described in a major publication as “new west” artist, David DeVary used symbols od the American West to express universal emotions, themes, and attitudes.
DeVary’s unique, stylized, idealized and romantic work is found in many private and public collections including the Denver Art Museum and the Booth Museum of Western Art.
Prior to relocating to Santa Fe, NM in pursuing his dream of being a full-time-artist, DeVary was an award-winning advertising executive. At 42, he was named Senior Vice President and Creative Director at J. Walter Thompson. During his tenure there, he was responsible for such memorable ad campaigns as McDonald’s “You Deserve a Break” and State Farm’s “Like a Good Neighbor”.
The artist understood that advertising and art both tell a story, and a great storyteller he was. His cowgirls with their playful stances, lyrical images of subjects with their horses, motorcycles and colorful attire gave his collectors a running commentary on the modern west.
His endearing work reminds us of why we love the West, as a real place and as a magical destination.
